Thursday April 24 -10:am-11:00am- Story Time - Namaste! Hello from India! Let's sample the culture of Southern Asia through stories, a snack and a craft. Elephants, tigers, crocodiles and monkeys are part of the India you already know. You can learn to count 1-5 in Hindi! LPL Children's Room (All Ages) -11:15am- "Faster, Higher, Stronger"- The 29th Olympiad will be taking place in Beijing, China in August 2008. Today we'll learn about the Olympics, the competitions and what the world's athletes might experience on their visit to China. VBS (Ages 6 and up) -1:00pm- Lego Adventure - We'll bring the Legos, you bring your imaginations, and we'll see what kind of interesting creatures, contraptions, or constructions we can come up with. VBS (Ages 4 and up) -3:00pm-5:00pm- Shadow Theater - A drop-in activity in puppetry. See the Tuesday description. LPL Children's Room (All Ages) Friday April 25 - 10:00am- Rhythm Poetry - You've got rhythm! Come and learn about the different rhythms in different kinds of poetry and try inventing some of your own. VBS (Ages 6 and up) -11:00am- Mehndi Art - Mehndi is a form of body art practiced in India and other areas of the Far East. Beautiful designs that last up to two weeks are drawn onto the skin using henna, a natural plant coloring. Beth Simon will demonstrate some designs and then show participants how to make a design on their own hands. The design will stay on your hand for up to two weeks, so be sure to ask permission from your parents before you come. Limited to ten participants - please sign up at the VBS early in the week (Ages 10 and up) - 1:30pm - 3:00pm - What's Up Aesop?- Children's theater with Melissa Weeden. We need a director, costume designer, music director and special effects coordinator - also actors and actresses who will put on a same-day public performance! Aesop's Fables will be the play within the play If acting is in your blood, grab a friend and join us on stage. LPL McLure Program Room (Ages 8 to 12) - 3:00pm - 3:30pm - What's Up Aesop? Free Public Performance - Enjoy the children's theater production of Aesop's Fables. LPL McLure Program Room (All Ages) - 7:00pm - Bedtime Story - Mike Streich of the Village Book Store will read his favorite bedtime story, Mr. Putter and Tabby Pour the Tea. Pajamas and pillows are welcome. VBS (All Ages) Saturday April 26 - 11:00am - 2:00pm - Shadow Theater - A drop-in activity in puppetry. See the Tuesday description. LPL McLure Children's Room (All Ages) - 1:30pm - Down and Out in America: The Great Depression - New Hampshire Humanities Council presentation with discussion led by Lawrence Douglas, Ph.D Syracuse University and an historian for General Schwarzkopf. America would not recover from the economic disaster of 1929 until WWII. What did we learn? Dr. Douglas addresses this topic and encourages the audience to relate first-hand accounts of their own depression experiences. Sponsored by the Friends of the Littleton Public Library.
